Everyone has a friend or family member who is hands down amazing at doing hair. That member is not me; it is my cousin Allyson. Allyson is a hair- braiding guru and I’ve always admired how beautifully her hair is styled on a regular basis as well as the ability she has to create such intricate braids on her own head! This past weekend, I asked her to teach me how to style and braid my own hair in a few different ways. The first braid she taught me was the fishtail braid.
THE FISHTAIL BRAID
Three simple steps for creating a fishtail braid are:
1// Tie hair into a low (or high) side ponytail. Separate ponytail into two sections.
2// Braid hair by pulling an outer strand from one section and crossing over to the opposite section; continue pulling and braiding hair back and forth until hair is braided to the end. Tie braid with an elastic band.
3// Remove first hair tie at the top of braid and the look is complete. Loosen braid for a more casual, messy look.
The fishtail braid is pretty, versatile (to be worn at the office, on date night or a casual night in) and extremely quick to do (this look took less than ten minutes to put together!). Out of the three or four braids she taught me, the fishtail was by far my favorite!
